Residents of cities across the country are already feeling the negative impact of short term rentals on their ability to find affordable housing. In the Greater Boston area, there are limited housing options which are affordable or reasonably priced available. Yet, more and more housing units are being changed into short term rentals. This issue is especially critical in areas like Boston’s Chinatown, where there is already an affordable housing crisis. There are more luxury developments entering the community looking to make a profit through short term rental services.
