Adult Education Program

Chinese immigrants are trapped in low-paying jobs and their daily interactions limited by the language barrier. Without increasing numbers of naturalized citizens who become registered voters and actively exercise their rights, the community will remain invisible and its needs unaddressed.  The goal of the Adult Education Program is to help Chinese immigrants learn English, become naturalized citizens, improve their living conditions and employment opportunities, and expand their participation in US society.

CPA Provides

  • US Citizenship classes and assistance with the naturalization process
  • Special Supermarket English for Employment Class in collaboration with Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center
  • An emphasis on learning the concept and practice of civic participation
  • Tutoring assistance and other support services for adult learners

To enroll in our Adult Education Classes, please pick up and fill out a form from our office.

Joint Statement on Peter Liang Sentencing

We are outraged that Peter Liang has escaped accountability for killing Akai Gurley. For more than a year, Akai Gurley’s family has been courageously speaking out to demand justice for their loved one. Judge Chun’s sentencing decision today is an insult to Akai Gurley, his family, and all victims of police violence. Any amount of jail/prison time is a brief snippet of time compared to the lifetime Akai Gurley’s young daughters will have to live without their father. The sentencing sends the message that it is okay to kill innocent and precious lives, as long as it is done by a police officer.

Chinatown/South End Collaborative Graduates Its Inaugural Occupational Skills Training for Supermarket Employment Class

The Occupational Skills Training for Supermarket Employment graduated its first class of seven students. The class was provided by the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC), the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA), BEST Corp., and the Massachusetts Worker Education Roundtable as part of the Chinatown/South End Collaborative. Students received training in customer service, English relevant to the supermarket and customer service industry and mainstream job search skills such as using computers, interview practice, and resume writing. Students also received one-on-one job and career coaching as part of the class. Four students have already been hired in the customer service and supermarket field with three of them working at the new Roche Bros. Downtown Crossing store.
